Banks to Seek More Personal Info Under Patriot Act

That USA Patriot Act, passed in reaction to the 9-11 attacks, armed the Justice Department with wide-ranging and controversial new powers to gather personal information about Americans. One of those powers will kick in on October 1, as banks and other financial institutions begin to verify the identities of new account holders against a list of known terrorists.
